A Jewish community representative says no public Hanukkah events will be held across Queensland on Monday in light of the mass shooting in Bondi on Sunday evening.

Stories of horror and heroism emerged as Australians mourned the 15 people killed by two gunmen at Sydney's Bondi Beach during a Hanukkah event.

Gunman Martin Bryant killed 35 people and wounded 23 in a rampage at the Port Arthur tourist precinct in the state of Tasmania.
