Making no secrets about their need for starting pitching depth this offseason, the Astros began addressing that void on Friday. Houston is in the process of acquiring right-hander Mike Burrows from the Pirates as part of a three-team blockbuster.

The cold stove just got a little warmer as the Houston Astros have pulled the trigger on a three team trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays. The Pirates are sending starting pitcher Mike Burrows to Houston with outfielders Jacob Melton and pitching prospect Anderson Brito going to the Rays as part of a deal.
Acquired by the Astros in 1976 for franchise legend Larry Dierker, Ferguson had an excellent year in his lone full season with the Astros in 1977. In 132 games, the catcher hit 21 doubles, 16 home runs, drove in 61, and had an OPS of .814 and OPS+ of 127.
Former Houston Astros catcher Martín Maldonado announced his MLB retirement in October. He will still stay heavily involved in professional baseball when 2026 arrives.
